Frequently Asked Questions
Question: Do you provide daycare at your church?
Answer: No
Why? While we recognize the benefit of quality day care services when necessary, we also rely
on God's word alone to determine the purposes we should serve as a church. It is our firm conviction is that the Bible
is our only source of Divine authority (1 Timothy
3:16; Ephesians 3:9-11). Scripture authorizes specific functions
of the church. They are evangelism, (teaching God's
word) edification (building up other Christians) and benevolence
(providing for the material needs of other Christians) (2
Corinthians 8:1-5). The churches work in each of these areas is
described and limited by the primary directive of saving souls (Luke
19:10). Asking the Lord's church to watch your children is a
bit like calling 911 to get your carpets cleaned in this way- The
police department has a very specific set of responsibilities, and
very limited resources, the Lord's church also has a very specific
set of responsibilities, and limited resources. Childcare and secular education, although good and at
times necessary, are the work of individuals, social groups, private business and
governments. Use of the resources (time, energy, money) of the
Lord's church to support a school, day care, kitchen, athletic team, or other social endeavors is
problematic for two reasons-
1. It inevitably redirects the focus of the group over time to things that are far
less critical than the scriptural mission of the Lord's church. There are endless examples
of this process in the form of religious groups that seemingly offer
everything except solid bible teaching and spiritual
support.
2. There simply is no scriptural authority for this. If the provision of daycare
services was scripturally authorized, all congregations would be
compelled to do so.
Question: Would you rent your building for a
wedding?
Answer: No.
While marriage is ordained by God, weddings are primarily social events. The building
we use is being paid for with money given back to God by the members
here. Practically speaking, that means we must be careful to insure
the building is used for the work
of the church that God has authorized. Because of our understanding
of authority given in scripture, we do not rent our facilities or
use the property for any money making activity. Additionally,
activities in our building are limited to those functions that
support the work of the church, even when used by our members.
Consequently, we do not rent the building building or make it
available for activities which are not consistent with the work and
mission of the New Testament church.
Question: What support groups to you have at
your church?
Answer: We believe that the church Christ established
is a support group and God intended it to function as
the most effective, powerful support group available-- A group of people
dedicated and committed to the pursuit of living like Christ will
always provide tremendous support to each other. We
do not deny that certain social support
groups can be very helpful for those working through difficult times
in life, but providing community support groups is not
consistent with the work of the Lord's church as seen in the
examples of the working church in the New Testament.
